We focused on the material elements found in bras, specifically foam and elastane, and their ability to alter the silhouette. We imagined the alternative forms these elements might take, with results that felt intentionally absurd. When I was fourteen, I put my sister’s bra in the dryer and got yelled at for it. I didn’t know they weren’t supposed to go in. I suppose I still don’t know much about them, and maybe the images reflect that. They’re all styled incorrectly, pads pulled from their elastane cocoons, straps wrapped low around the waist like belts. What does it all mean? Maybe that no matter how much I learn, I’ll never really know what it’s like to be a woman. But I’m still drawn to the beauty of womanhood, and to finding ways to celebrate it through my work.
